“Grogiolare “ means :to cook
slowly over moderate heat.
The methaphoric use of the verb
is reflexive: Crogiolarsi, that is….
groping is pampering, spoiling. It
is also to warm oneself blissfully or lazily at a source of heat: bask in the
sun, in the bed, in the flame of the fireplace. You can hang out in the arms of
your mother or loved one with a tender and warm pleasure
But.. not a translation for the
cooking use of it
Grogiolare comes before Rosolare:
The meat cooks slowly on a low heat, dripping
its fats and getting a nice golden color together with a nice crispy texture. But
before, it was rolling on a spit or cooking in the oven - better over a rack
to allow the fats to fall down - with a pleasant feezy sound: the meat was “grogiolando”.
Now, I am grogiolando with the thought of the good food waiting for me at a table surrounded by lovely people
